For the second time within a month the Greek Government has intervened in the disrupted affairs of the Jewish Community of Corfu with a view to settling the differences there.

Yesterday the Greek Government ordered the President of the Corfu Jewish Community to dissolve the council and hold new elections.

On December 29th the Government appointed a Jewish Commission to proceed to Corfu to probe the situation there.

Yesterday’s action was taken when leaders among Corfu Jewry objected to the Investigation Commission.

Senator Isaac Sciaky has been requested by Corfu leaders to make representations to the government with a view to prevent dissolution of the Council. Senator Sciaky was a member of the Government’s Investigation Commission.

The government’s intervention came about after the differences in the Jewish Community led to its decline. At one time numbering 4,000 people, the Jewish community’s total population is now set at 1,800.
