Following strong pressure by Jewish leaders in this country, the Greek Government abolished the “electoral ghetto” which until now has restricted Jews in Salonika to two special polling places where only Jews voted. The national elections are being held today.
Under the latest government action the 600 Jewish voters of Salonika will be permitted to enter any one of four polling places which will also be used by non-Jews. Jewish protests against the law–and threats to boycott the national elections–were based on the fact that the “electoral ghetto” robbed them of a secret ballot.
