Official Greek sources have notified the Israel Foreign Ministry that reports that Greek Foreign Minister Sophocles Venezeles had told a press conference in Damascus that Greece would never recognize Israel are completely unfounded.
Reports to this effect were broadcast from Cairo and Damascus during the Greek diplomat’s visit. Greece has given Israel de facto recognition and is represented by a Consul General here, but has never extended full recognition to the Jewish State nor exchanged ministers.
