Hank Greenberg, the only Jewish baseball player in the World Series this year and star first baseman of the Detroit Tigers, blew up along with the rest of the Detroit ball club yesterday at Navins Park, Detroit, in the first game against the St. Louis Cardinals.
Dizzy Dean, of the Cards, pitched his team to an 8-3 victory over Greenberg’s nine and also helped considerably at the plate by smacking out a hit.
Greenberg in four times at bat connected for two hits one of which was a home run. He struck out once and made one error. He tallied twice.
