The executive committee of the American Zionist Emergency Council, at a meeting this week, unanimously decided not to accept the resignation of Hayim Greenberg, its chairman, it was announced today.
Despite this decision, Mr. Greenberg declared that he stands by his resignation and does not intend to withdraw it. He thanked the meeting for the confidence they expressed in him. His letter of resignation, as made public today, emphasizes that the present difficulties within the Zionist movement in America undermine the prestige and reputation of Zionist leadership and weaken the Zionist position vis-a-vis government circles here and abroad.
The American Zionist Policy Committee, which is campaigning for the return of Dr. Abba Hillel Silver to Zionist leadership, today reported that 75,000 members of the Zionist Organization of America have urged Dr. Silver’s return to active leadership in the American Zionist movement, expressing their sentiments in resolutions adopted at Zionist meetings throughout the country.
