A group of 180 college-age Americans will leave New York for a seven-week study tour of Israel under the auspices of the Jewish Agency, it was announced here today. The group, known as the Israel Summer Institute, will depart in three plane-loads, the first taking off from New York International Airport June 30th.
The first and second groups will meet in Paris in July and proceed to Marseilles where they will board the Israeli ship “Artsa” for the voyage to Haifa. The third group will fly directly to Israel. All will return to the United States early in September.
The Israel Summer Institute, a non-profit educational project sponsored for the past seven years by the Jewish Agency’s Youth Department, offers a program of extensive guided tours of Israel, lectures and courses of study in Jerusalem, and a two-week period at an agricultural settlement. Lectures and orientation sessions are conducted by officials of the Israel Government, the Jewish Agency and other national institutions. Courses in Hebrew and Israel history and geography are given by faculty members of the Hebrew University.
