An organization of former Jewish resistance fighters and concentration camp inmates has appealed to Secretary General U Thant, the delegates of the United Nations, “to the four great powers which in 1946 conquered fascism and Nazism” and to “freedom loving people everywhere” not to “negate or evade its responsibilities” toward the security of Israel. The appeal was contained in a proclamation issued by the American Division of the World Federation of Jewish Fighters, Camp Inmates and Nazi Victims on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the founding of the UN. Noting that 25 years ago the resistance fighters and camp inmates were liberated by victorious Allied armies, the proclamation said, “twenty-five years later, these same survivors who fought tyranny and sought peace, still fight and now their children fight the same battle for survival against those whose only aim is the same as the Nazi creed–annihilation of the Jewish people in Israel” The proclamation called on the UN and the nations of the free world to unite “in proclaiming for a just settlement by negotiation by all parties in the Middle East and to recognize the vast potential which peace can bring to this area, and for its promise to all mankind.”
