The organizations working in Russia for the colonization of Jews on the land, have established a joint fund for the purpose of relieving the situation of some of the colonies, tiding them over with food and fodder until the next crop.
The Agrojoint, agency of the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee; the Ozet, society for settling Jews on the land, the Ort, society for promoting trades and agriculture, and the Jewish Colonization Association decided at a joint session of their representatives to establish a fund of 750,000 Roubes. The amount of 250,000 toward this fund will come from the Soviet Government’s General Transmigration Fund, as the monies of the Comzet, the governmental department for Jewish land settlement, is intended solely for livestock and equipment. The remaining 500,000 roubles will be made up by the organizations.
The amount agreed upon is insufficient to meet the needs, unless the transmigrants organize extensive help for each other. No credit will be given settlers who trade or hire labor. A minimum of one tractor will be made available for each thirty families.
Nineteen hundred houses are to be built in the Agrojoint colonies and 700 by the Ozet.
The first twenty orders for machines, paid for by American relatives, have been approved by the Ort.
