Nearly 150 scholarships for a year’s stay in #### will be offered this year to American Zionist youth between the ages of 18 and ## it was announced here today by the youth department of the Jewish Agency.
Sponsoring the scholarships are various Zionist organizations which will ### candidates who are to be approved by a five-man national board of judges com–posed of leading Jewish educators. The Zionist Organization of America is offering ## scholarships. The American Zionist Youth Commission–made up of Junior Hadassah, ### IZFA, Young Judea, as well as Habonim, Hashomer Hatzair, Junior Mizrachi when, Hechalutz Hadati–have Joined the plan and will specify how many scholar-ships they propose to sponsor as soon as financial arrangements have been made.
Candidates will be judged on the basis of their leadership quality and their knowledge of Hebrew and Zionist and Jewish history, according to Youth Depart-met spokesmen. The year in Israel, under the scholarship plan, will be divided ##ally between formal study and practical work in a settlement. Upon their return, they will be expected to spend a year in service with the organization which sponsored their scholarships.
