Continuing his speech on the budget in the Sejm, Deputy Isaac Gruenbaum said, “It is due only to the assistance of the American Joint that the Polish Jews have kepi on economically. No government minister would dare to make such statements in Poland as the Polish minister to the United States, Pilipowitch made when he said that there was no anti-Semitism in Poland.”
When interrupted by the president of the Progressive Deputies Club, Slavek, who said, “but what does Sholom Asch say?” Gruenbaum answered, “you probably know that Asch not only complimented the Polish government but also made demands of it and made accusations. We don’t want your sentiments. It is our duty to tell you the truth and we will never beg favors from you but only demand our rights.”
