An educator, a poet and three rabbis received honorary degrees tonight at a Founders Day ceremony of the Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion. The event was held in the New York school of the seminary for Reform rabbis.
Dr. Alvin S. Johnson, president emeritus of the New School for Social Research, received the degree of Doctor of Humane Letters. Ephraim E. Lisitzky, Hebrew poet, was awarded the degree of Doctor of Hebrew Letters. Rabbi Julius Gutmann of Troy, Rabbi Jerome R. Malino of Danbury, Conn., and Rabbi Theodore S, Ross, of Queens, received honorary Doctor of Divinity degrees.
