The Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion yesterday conferred honorary degrees on ten persons at exercises at Temple Emanu-El here at which seven rabbis were ordained and five cantors were invested. The degrees were conferred by Dr. Nelson Glueck, president of HUC-JIR.
Recipients of the honorary degrees were: Dr. Buell Gallagher, president of City College; Dr. Richard B. Morris, professor of history at Columbia University; Louis Rasminsky, governor of the Bank of Canada; Isaac Bashevis Singer, author; Rabbi Sidney Ballon of West Hempstead, L.I.; Rabbi Abraham Dubin and Rabbi Hugo Hahn of New York; Rabbi William H. Fineshriber of Elkins Park, Pa.; Rabbi Morris S. Lazaron of Palm Beach, Fla.; and Rabbi Maurice H. Schatz of Huntington, L. I.
