Special envoy Philip Habib is on his way to his home in California from Jerusalem, State Department deputy spokesman Alan Romberg said today. Habib is expected to be in Washington next week. Romberg said no date has been set for Habib’s return to the Middle East. Habib’s latest trip to the Mideast was an effort to get Syria to agree to withdraw it troops from Lebanon but the Syrian government refused to allow him to come to Damascus.
