The Habimah, Israel’s leading troupe which is currently celebrating its 40th birthday, was given last night the status of a national theatre.
The announcement was made at a gala performance last night by Zalman Arrane, Minister of Education, who also revealed that the government had decided to recommend an annual subsidy of 100, 000 pounds for the institution. Present at the ceremonies last night were Premier and Mrs. David Ben Gurion, members of the Cabinet and their wives and other Israeli notables.
