A $500,000 Medical Fellowship program, designed to elevate the standards of medicine and science in Israel to the levels prevailing in these fields in the United States, was announced tonight at the opening session of the four-day Mid-Winter Conference of Hadassah, at the Park Sheraton Hotel.
Details of the comprehensive half-million dollar fellowship program, believed to be the largest ever undertaken by a voluntary membership organization, were reported to Hadassah leaders from all sections of the United States, representing more than 1,200 chapters with a combined membership exceeding 300,000, by Mrs. Samuel J. Rosensohn, national president of Hadassah.
The conference adopted a resolution appealing to the leaders of the Soviet Union to bring about an immediate cessation of its campaign of vilification and incitement against the Jews in Eastern Europe. “We urge the leaders of the Soviet Union to permit all Jews seeking to emigrate to Israel to do so without fear of reprisal” the resolution said. “Peace and friendship are meaningless phrases without implementation by deeds.”
