A Rosh Hashanah gift of $35,000 was announced here today by the Hadassah, the Women’s Zionist Organization of America, to start a building fund for a tuberculosis wing in the Rothschild-Hadassah-University Hospital on Mt. Scopus, Jerusalem, in the near future.
The step was taken “to help prevent a further increase in the incidence of tuberculosis brought about by war, inadequate hospitalization and the deterioration of economic conditions in Palestine.” The new grant is in addition to Hadassah’s support of the 60-bed Safed Tuberculosis Hospital, and its subsidy to the Anti-Tuberculosis League for regular therapeutic service and preventive work among children. A total of $20,000 has been sent to Palestine for this phase of Hadassah’s work during the past year.
