Medical standards in Israel will be comparable to those prevailing in the United States with the construction, in the near future, of the projected $10, 000, 000 Hadassah-Hebrew University Medical Center, it was reported here today by Mrs. Abraham Tulin, chairman of the Hadassah Medical Organization, at the annual Mid-Winter Hadassah conference.
Mrs. Tulin reported that intensive research is being conducted in Hadassah hospitals in Israel in arteriosclerosis and cancer “with unceasing patience and courage.” She added that Israel’s treatment of cancer “with radioactive substances is an endless adventure story.”
Mrs. Tulin also reported that the chest surgery department, established recently in the Hadassah hospital in Jerusalem with the assistance of American and British medical experts, has been achieving “miraculous results.” In the first few months of the new department, she said, 50 heart operations and 150 lung resections were performed without a single mortality.
She noted that Hadassah doctors in Israel have made “substantial progress” in the battle against infantile paralysis, and that a new Department of Psychiatry will be established this summer with the assistance of Dr. Milton Rosenbaum, Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Cincinnati.
