The low death rate of 3.8 per 1,000 among women in childbirth at the Rothschild Hospital at Jerusalem and the Hadassah subsidized hospitals in Tel Aviv and Haifa is recorded in the 1933 report of the Hadassah Medical Organization, made public here yesterday by the Women’s Zionist Organization of America.
Other outstanding developments of the past year were the appointment of ten exiled German physicians to the medical staff of the Jerusalem hospital, and the permission to thirty other German doctors to engage in post-graduate work in hospitals and laboratories. In connection with the contemplated Hadassah-University Medical Center a radium institute was established with 200 milligrams of radium, and irradiation equipment brought by Professor Ludwig Halberstadter, German cancer specialist, who now directs the institute.
