Hadassah members sponsored services and a Shabbat dinner at Virginia Tech.
About 30 members of the group attended Friday night dinner and services with some 75 Virginia Tech students in a program organized in conjunction with the university’s Hillel chapter.
Hadassah gave the Hillel chapter 300 yarmulkes with Virginia Tech colors and logos, according to the president of Hadassah’s Southern Seaboard region. On Sunday the groups held a ceremony honoring slain professor Liviu Librescu, who was killed in a massacre at the school in April. A lone gunman killed 32 people on the Blacksburg campus before committing suicide.
The ceremony also recognized Librescu’s wife, Marlena, for whom the Danville, Va., chapter of Hadassah planted 400 trees through the Jewish National Fund.
