Hadassah, the Women’s Zionist Organization of America, will hold its nineteenth annual convention in Chicago from October 22 to 25, at the Palmer House. More than 1,000 delegates from thirty-six states are expected to attend, representing a national membership of approximately 40,000 members grouped in 251 chapters throughout the country.
“Century of Progress” will honor the organization with a “Hadassah Day” at the World Fair on October 25, when the delegates will be the guests of the State of Illinois at a tea given on the Fair grounds.
Dr. Stephen S. Wise will speak on “Germany and the World Crisis in Judaism” at a mass meeting to be held in connection with the convention on the evening of October 23. The exodus of German physicians seeking refuge in Palestine who have applied to Hadassah for employment, the advancement of building plans for the Hadassah-University Hospital and Medical Center in Jerusalem, the maintenance of the first radiology Hospital and Medical Center in Jerusalem, the maintenance of the first radiology institute in the Near East, to be headed by Professor Halberstadter, famous cancer research specialist; the further development of Hadassah’s preventative health program stressing child and infant welfare, will be among the problems to be discussed at the sessions. A banquet tendered to the delegates at which Rabbi Solomon S. Goldman will be the guest speaker, will close the parley.
