In order that Palestine may have “skilled young Jews capable of carrying forward the industrial revolution already taking place there,” Hadassah announced today that it was expanding the work of the Louis D. Brandeis Vocational Center, set up several years ago in Jerusalem as a memorial to the late Supreme Court Justice.
The announcement was made during the morning session of the mid-winter conference of the organization, attended by 100 national board members representing 700 chapters in 47 states, at the Park Central Hotel. Announcement was also made that Hadassah has provided a fund to train Jewish refugee doctors and provide nursing education for refugee girls who are already in Palestine.
It was disclosed at the closing session that Hadassah has increased its membership by 30,000 in the last six weeks, making a total of over 125,000 enrolled since October 1945. The organization’s goal is 200,000 members by September 30, the close of its fiscal year.
