The Hadassah convention closed with a banquet last night after re-electing its officers, adopting a $110,000 Jewish National Fund quota, deciding to plant a forest in Palestine in Eddie Cantor’s honor and sending a petition to President Roosevelt urging him to assist in keeping Palestine’s doors open.
The officers are Mrs. Moses P. Epstein, president; Miss Henrintta Szold, honorary president; Mrs. David de Sola Pool, Mrs. Joseph M. Ehrlich, Miss Julliet N. Benjamin and Mrs. Adolph Sieroty, vice-president; Mrs. Herman Shulman, secretary, and Mrs. Alexander Lamport, treasurer.
The J.N.F. quota was approved at a national fund session at which it was announced that Hadassah last year raised $105,000, the largest amount raised by any single body in the world for the J.N.F., according to Dr. Israel Goldstein, president of the fund. An administrative budget of $86,000 was accepted. Resolutions of solidarity were sent to the Palestine Jewish community.
When it was announced that a forest of 10,000 trees would be planted for Mr. Cantor, who has been instrumental in raising funds for youth Aliyah, delegates subscribed for 15,000 trees, of which 2,000 will be in Mrs. Epstein’s honor, hep birthday occurring yesterday. After the business session delegates stood in line for hours to sign the petition to the President as an answer to Arab protests against American “interference” in Palestine affairs.
