One hundred and twenty-one delegates representing fifty cities responded to the roll call of the annual Hadassah convention at the Belvedere Hotel here. The Hadassah since the convention last July has grown from 8,000 to 12,000 members, Alice Seligsborg, president of the organization, declared in her annual report.
Within the past sixteen months, Miss Seligsborg said, $132,621. in cash, and supplies amounting to $71,893, have been raised for the Hadassah hospitals and other services in Palestine.
The address of welcome was delivered by Mrs. Emil Crockin of the Baltimore chapter. Miss Henrietta Szold responded, expressing admiration of the progress Hadassah made during the past three years she was in Palestine.
Reports of Mrs. Bromenson, chairman of the Palestine Supplies Department; and of Mrs. Lefkowitz, treasurer, Mrs. Jacbbs, chairman of publicity, Mrs. Fletcher, Milk Station Fund, were presented.
A new arrangement recently effected for the support of the Hadassah Medical organization in Palestine was announced. By this arrangement, the Hadassah organization is to provide $100,000 and the Keren Hayesed and Joint Distribution Committee, $70,000 each.
The Hadassah in addition is also sending in to Palestine $11,670. for Hygienic work in the Palestine schools and in the chaluzim camps.
Louis Lipsky, chairman of the Zionist Organization, in an address to the convention voiced appreciation of the Hadassah contribution to the Zionist movement and congratulated the organization on its growth since it has become an autonomous organization.
At a luncheon given by the Baltimore chapter to the delegates, the following contributions were announced: Pittsburgh chapter, $5,000 Baltimore, $5,000; Bath Beach, $1,000.
Among the speakers who addressed the convention were Mrs. Ehrlich, Detroit, Mrs. Blaustein, Norfolk, Miss Margolis, Boston, Miss Haddassah Shedrowitzky, a graduate of the Palestine Nurses Training School now taking a postgraduate course in America, Mrs. Harry Kaplan, Cleveland, Mrs. Vixman, Pittsburgy, Mrs. Joseph Goldman, Baltimore.
The convention resolved to bestow on Miss Szold , the founder of the organization, the degree “Our beloved mother in Israel.”
The convention decided to send delegates to the World Zionist Congress at Carlsbad.
