The New York International Basketball Association was given by the Haifa municipality a three-month, free option on a two-acre site where it might erect a sports and cultural center in this city. The center would contain an auditorium with a capacity of 3,000 spectators, an indoor arena seating 15,000, television studios, a shopping center and underground parking space. The offer was made to Leon H. Charney, of New York, president of the IBA. He told the press that the IBA plans to build such centers in the United States and Europe, and possibly here as well, for use by international sports events that would be televised throughout the world via Telestar. He said the association would discuss the Haifa city’s offer at a meeting in New York.
