A new quay at an estimated cost of more than $3,000,000 will be built in the harbor here, the Jewish Telegraphic Agency learned today.
The construction work will be done by the Haifa Harbor Works here. After the completion of the quay the harbor will be able to berth eight steamers at a time, stead of the four which can dock at present.
Final confirmation of the project is awaited here from the Colonial Office in London. Work will start as soon as the oil dock, which is to receive crude oil from the Mosul pipe line to discharge into waiting ships, is completed.
Congestion in the harbor during the past few months has resulted in serious delay in the clearing and discharging of cargo.
