The first doctorate in Technical Science was today awarded by the Haifa Technical Institute to Dr. Eliezer Mishkin, lecturer in electrical engineering at the school and himself a graduate of the Technion in 1942. The degree was presented at a ceremony at the opening of the academic year which was combined with the awarding of degrees to 172 new engineers and architects graduated from the school last summer.
Speaking at the ceremony, Col. Yaacov Dori, president of the school, ### that a site has already been set aside on the northern slopes of Mr. ### for a new “Technion City” to be established as soon as funds become available. He revealed that fund-raising programs have been initiated in the United States and ### countries for this purpose and that the Jewish Agency has included a “significant” sum in its proposed budget for the expansion of the Technion.
President Dori also reported that the school would soon inaugurate the new departments — aeronautics, production engineering and agricultural engineering. He expressed gratitude to the United States for its technical assistance to the school in these fields.
