The Jewish population in Haifa declined by 6,000 persons (2.5 percent of the general population) between 1981 and 1985, while the Arab population grew from 7.2 percent of the population to 8.4 percent during this period, according to the annual report of the “Shekmuna” housing rehabilitation company in the Carmel city.
Haifa’s total population is 224,625, including 205,757 Jews (91.6 percent) and 18,868 Arabs (8.4 percent).
In addition, Haifa’s percentage in Israel’s general population has dwindled from 9.3 percent in 1951 to 5.3 percent in 1985.
