Before a crowd of more than 20,000. the Hakoah Soccer Team, made up of Jewish players, the majority of whom were formerly members of the Vienna Hakoah sport club, won the soccer championship of the United States at a match Sunday afternoon with the St. Louis Madison Kennel Club. The score was 3-0. Last week the Hakoah defeated the Madison club at St. Louis, 2-0. With Sunday’s game the three-match finals were completed, since the third match was unnecessary, the Hakoah having won two successive matches. The enthusiastic Hakoah followers crowded onto the field at Dexter Park, Brooklyn, and carried off the Hakoah players on their shoulders. Erno Schwarcz, Max Gruenwald and Moritz Haeusler, the scorers in the game, and Bala Guttman, captain of the team, were the heroes.
The Hakoah team was constituted this season. It succeeds the New York Nationals to the championship. It was pointed out that the Hakoah team had an unusually high goal-scoring average throughout the season.
