Commencing in October, 1954, half of all German reparations shipments to Israel will be carried in German bottoms and the other half in Israeli owned or chartered vessels, according to an agreement between the German authorities and the Israel purchasing mission in Germany, it was learned here today.

In the past, German shippers were reluctant to carry goods to Israel for two reasons; because the Israelis, fearful of possible riots, have refused to grant German merchant seamen shore leave in their ports; and because the shippers have feared that they would be barred from Arab harbors if they stopped off at Israel ports.
