British Ambassador Lord Halifax has promised to transmit to the British Government an appeal from Dr. Chaim Weizmann for admission to Palestine of some 800 Jewish refugees, mostly from the Balkans, now held in Haifa harbor on the ships on which they arrived.

Dr. Weizmann revealed that he had seen Lord Halifax on Friday morning and had urged that the refugees be admitted as legal immigrants, pointing out that the Jews had 40,000 more to go before filling the five-year quota of 75,000 immigrants under the White Paper.

The Zionist leader also took exception to Lord Halifax’s remark at a press conference last Wednesday that the Balfour Declaration was being fulfilled. “I respectfully difference Lord Halifax,” Dr. Weizmann said. “The growth of the Jewish national home in Palestine the present time being officially impeded.”
