The Students Assembly Hall of the new buildings of the Yeshiva College which is now nearing completion will be named the Lamport Hall in honor of Nathan Lamport, president of the Rabbi Isaac Elchanan Theological Seminary.
A decision to this effect was adopted at the last meeting of the Board of Directors of the Rabbi Isaac Elchanan Theological Seminary and of the Yeshiva. Collegs Building Fund.
The honor was conferred upon Mr. Lamport in recognition of his work for the institution for higher Jewish learning during the past thirty years. Mr. Lamport, who is also an honorary officer of the Yeshiva College Building Campaign Commitee has contributed $200,000 towards the campaign, this being the largest single contribution in the campaign. Mr. Lamport, whose 70th birthday celebration was an outstanding event in orthodox Jewish circles two years ago, is now recovering from a recent illness.
“Talmud Students,” a painting by Leopold Pilichowski, the well known Jewish painter of England, will decorate the interior of the Yeshiva College buildings which will soon be opened, it was announced.
The painting was purchased by Bernard London, and presented to the Yeshiva College. The price was not disclosed. The oil painting is internationally known, and measures 66 x 42 inches, and represents a group of scholars, young and old, studying the Talmud.
