On October 1, the eve of Yom Kippur, American Jewry will learn whether a Jew, the first Jew, is to be elected to the Hall of Fame on the campus of New York University, for on that day will be made public the results of the balloting by the college of electors who will have to fill fifteen vacancies.
Among the candidates on whom the 106 electors are voting is Rabbi Isaac M. Wise, the late leader of American Reform Judaism, founder of the Hebrew Union College and founder and first editor of the American Israelite. Rabbi Wise is not only the solitary Jewish candidate on whom the electors are voting but he is also the first Jew for whom the electors have ever had an opportunity of balloting.
