The Hallgarten School, named after the well-known German-Jewish philanthropist, Charles Hallgarten, was today re-named, on orders of the Mayor, “Nordenschule.”
Hallgarten, who died in 1908, was famous for his philanthropies and interest in the struggle against anti-Semitism. He organized societies to aid the victims of Czarist Russia pogroms and formed relief bodies to help needy German Jews.
