Hamas launched rocket attacks on Israel, breaking a months-long truce.

Hamas’ armed wing, Izzadin al-Kassam, said it fired dozens of rockets and mortar shells from the Gaza Strip on Tuesday after Israeli-Palestinian violence flared over the weekend in the West Bank and Gaza. The terrorist group, which assumed control over the Palestinian Authority in March 2006, had agreed to a cease-fire in November. Israel contended, however, that it allowed other groups to carry out attacks instead.

An Israeli army spokesman said six mortar shells fired from the Gaza Strip early on Tuesday fell in Israel, but there were no reports of casualties.
