United Nations Secretary General Dag Hammarskjold was this weekend represented as preparing to call the Israel-Jordan meeting requested by Israel under the terms of the Israel-Jordan armistice agreement.
In UN circles it was understood that Mr. Hammarskjold was preparing to call the meeting this week after his session with Israel delegate Abba Eban last Friday in which the Israeli representative said his government would not withdraw its request for such a session. The Israeli request for a meeting was made November 23 and since then the Secretary General has had two communications from Jordan, both evasive but neither indicating a desire to attend the meeting which Mr. Hammarskjold has stated he is legally obliged to call.
