Secretary General Dag Hammarskjold will undoubtedly visit Israel on his new peace mission to the Middle East for which he will depart Friday. The most urgent places for him, however, were understood to be Amman, capital of Jordan, and Cairo.
Mr. Hammarskjold will make another effort on this trip, it was reported, to shore up the UN armistice arrangements between Israel on the one hand and Jordan, Syria, Lebanon and Egypt on the other.
(In Washington, State Department spokesman Lincoln White said today the United States Government had no comment to make on the new Jordan-Israel crisis highlighted by the pending flight of United Nations Secretary General Dag Hammarskjold to the scene)
