Presence of mind of a municipal street sweeper prevented a tragedy today near the northern railway station here when he discovered a suspicious parcel amid the shrubs surrounding the station. The worker called in police who found that the parcel contained a hand grenade with a timing device. A sapper was called in and the grenade was dismantled. Because of the bus strike today the railway station was unusually crowded. The city’s police chief praised the alertness of the municipal worker and called on the public to maintain alertness.
