Dr. Ernst “Putzi” Hanfstaengl, onetime boon companion of Chancellor Adolf Hitler, has been dropped as head of the Nazi Party’s Foreign Press Division, it was confirmed here, according to the Havas News Agency.
Hanfstaengl is not in Germany, it was admitted, but officials were either unwilling or unable to reveal his present whereabouts.
Partly because he is an expert pianist, the American-born Harvard graduate was long a favorite of the Fuehrer. His press functions have been taken over, at least temporarily, by Otto Dietrich, chief of the Party’s Press Bureau.
