The tenth national conference of Hapoel Hamizrachi–the religious labor Zionist organization–concluded this week-end after electing a 26-member central committee including representatives of all factions in the movement. The new body also includes Immigration Minister Moshe Shapira and S.Z. Shragai, member of the Jewish Agency executive.
Among the resolutions adopted by the conference was a demand that the Israel Government move to Jerusalem, thus converting the Holy City into the capital of the Jewish state and a request that the Israel Government grant the Zionist movement a special status and charter for colonization and similar activities, particularly vis-a-vis the absorption of new immigrants.
The conference also decided to “take steps to appear before the next World Zionist Congress as a separate organization.” Delegates to the parley also demanded formation of a united group comprising Hapoel Hamizrachi and Poale Agudas Israel–a empowered the central committee to “explore the possibilities” of Hapoel Hamizrachi’s entry into the Histabrut, with instructions that a report on results of its findings be submitted to the next national parley.
