Yitzhak Harkavi, Israel’s former Ambassador to Uruguay, and Dr. Ranaan Weitz, director general of the agriculture department of the Jewish Agency, were today elected new members of the Jewish Agency executive. Mr. Harkavi succeeds Zalman Shazar, who left the executive when he assumed the Presidency, and Dr. Weitz succeeds Levi Eshkol, who resigned when he was named Premier.
The election of the new members of the executive requires the approval of the Zionist General Council. This will be done by means of a referendum to be circulated among the members. Mr. Harkavi was born in Poland and taken by his parents to Argentina in 1926. He settled in Israel in 1954. Dr. Weitz was born in Israel.
