Earl G. Harrison, director of the Department of Justice’s aliens registration, said in a radio broadcast tonight that it was the duty of Americans to prevent any persecution of loyal aliens for the “disloyal actions of any minority group.”
Warning against loose and indiscriminate use of the word “alien,” he said, “it may well be that there are among us some who are disloyal to America” and seek to promote disunity among the people. “There abuses are not limited to non-naturalized residents,” he declared. “All of us must see to it that loyal, law-abiding non-citizens are not persecuted or condemned for the disloyal actions of any minority group.”
