Harry Rogoff, for many years editor-in-chief of the Jewish Daily Forward, was honored here by Jewish leaders and writers at a luncheon tendered him at the Atran House where he was presented with a portrait of himself painted by the noted Jewish artist, J. Margolis.
The services rendered by Mr. Rogoff to Jewish life in this country, to Israel, and to the Jewish labor movement in the United States were emphasized by the principal speakers at the luncheon who included Dr. L. Fogelman, present editor-in-chief of the Forward; Jacob Potofsky, president of the Amalgamated Clothing Workers Union; Louis Stolberg, secretary-general of the International Ladies Garment Workers Union, and others. Adolf Held, general manager of the Forward, presided. Greetings were received from many personalities.
Mr. Rogoff, replying, reviewed the role of the Forward in American Jewish life during the 60 years of his association with the newspaper in various executive editorial positions. He also reviewed Jewish life in the United States today and predicted that interest in Jewish affairs would grow among the American born generations if Jewish leaders would concentrate more on promoting Jewish education.
