A nationwide committee of friends of Harry S. Truman today announced plans to establish a Chair in American Civilization at Brandeis University in honor of the former president.
The Truman Chair will be created through provisions of a fund established under the chairmanship of Col. Jacob M. Arvey of Chicago. Adlai E. Stevenson, Mrs. Eleanor Roosevelt, Gov. Averell Harrlman of New York, House Speaker Sam Rayburn, and former Sen. Herbert H. Lehman of New York are honorary co-chairmen of the committee.
