The tropical cyclone that swept down on Cuba Friday and devastated the island for more than eight hours did no damage to the large Jewish community in Havana.
In the provincial towns of Matanzas, Cardenas and Camaguey where the cyclone did the most damage, many buildings were destroyed including shops belonging to Jewish residents. Wires between Havana and the provincial towns are down and details of the damage and the loss of life which is believed to be small, are lacking.
