The head of the Roman Catholic Church in Argentina has congratulated Israel on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of its independence. Antonio Cardinal Caggiano, Archbishop of Buenos Aires, addressed his message to Baruch Tenenbaum, secretary-general of the Committee for Argentine House in Israel. The Cardinal’s message said in part: “I am glad to congratulate you for your longings for peace…the responsibility of creating a peaceful atmosphere is a task for everyone. Certainly the obligation to seek peace does not conflict with the rights of self-defense. I extend my most fervent wishes that Israel’s genius, illuminated by God, shall find a way to peace. Its success in the fields of culture and science deserve the world’s admiration.”
