Rabbi Shimon ben Eleazar Treblink, head of the Moscow Yeshiva, the only Jewish theological seminary in the Soviet Union, died at Moscow according to a Moscow report reaching here today.
A native of White Russia, Rabbi Treblink headed the yeshiva which numbers between 15 and 20 students. The post took only part of his time, and did not pay him sufficiently for his living needs, forcing him to hold a job as an artisan to eke out a living. According to the Moscow dispatch, hundreds of Jews attended Rabbi Treblink’s funeral, and the scholar was eulogized during the services by Moscow’s Chief Rabbi J. L. Lewin.
