A toast to “better Israel-Soviet relations, voiced by Arkady A. Sobolev, head of the USSR delegation here, highlighted a reception in honor of Israel’s Independence Day given here over the week-end by Israel’s delegation chairman, Abba S Eban.
Mr. Eban and this United Nations deputy, Mordecai R. Kidron, headed the Israeli reception line, with their wives, greeting several hundred diplomatic and press guests attending the event in the Security Council lounge adjoining the very chamber where many of the Israel-Arab conflicts have been aired here for the last few years.
Henri Hoppenot of France, and Sir Pierson Dixon of Britain greeted the Israelis on behalf of their countries. Among delegations that turned out in full force, led by their chairmen, were most of the groups representing the Latin American countries here.
