Heads of states and other governing officials around the world sent messages of greetings to Israel today on the occasion of the 24th anniversary of its independence. Messages addressed to President Zalman Shazar were received here from the Emperor of Japan, the Queen of England, the King of Belgium, the Queen of The Netherlands and the King of Nepal.
Messages were also received from the Presidents of the United States, West Germany, Austria, Italy, Iceland, Ecuador, Upper Volta, the Dominican Republic, Switzerland, Rwanda, Rumania, Turkey, Ivory Coast, Togo. Madagascar, Mexico, Malawi, Senegal, Peru and Cuba.
Good wishes were also sent by the Governor Generals of Malta, Australia and Canada and the Chairman of the Revolutionary Council of Burma. Earlier in the week President Shazar received messages from Jews in the Soviet Union. These included letters and cables signed by 107 Moscow Jews, 35 from Minsk, 17 from Leningrad and a message from the Jewish prisoners at Camp 19 at Potma.
