Another hearing on the bill which, if enacted, would prohibit Schechita in the State of Connecticut, will take place on Thursday, April 18, before the legislative committee of the Legislature.
The bill had already been passed by both houses but because of the protest of rabbis in the state it was at the last minute withdrawn from the engrossing clerk’s office before being submitted for the Governor’s signature.
The fight against the proposed bill is led by more than a score of rabbis who have retained counsel. At Thursday’s hearing the case against the bill will be stated by Rabbis Hoffenberg and Hurwitz of Hartford, Rabbi Abraham Neusman of New Haven and representatives from New London, Waterbury, Bridgeport, Stamford and New Britain.
