Large sections of Israel were hit today by floods resulting from almost 48 hours of continuous rains, causing road damages estimated at at least a half-million pounds (280,000), stranding automobiles, disrupting working hours, and flooding many homes and public institutions.
Telephone service was interrupted by the floods between Tel Aviv and Jerusalem, and in other areas of the country. Many streets in this city were flooded by raging streams. On the highways throughout this part of Israel, many automobiles were abandoned. The weather forecasts for tomorrow and the weekend predicted more rain.
